FIRA WorldCup at RoboGames 2007

RoboGames is proud to host the 2007 FIRA (Federation of International Robot-soccer Association) 12th annual Robot World Cup! We expect teams from at least 20 countries to compete.

FIRA is a non-profit institution that organizes robotic competitions around the globe. Robot Soccer competitions started in 1996. FIRA was established on June 5, 1997. The FIRA Robot World Cup is held every year on global-scale - Paris hosted the World Cup in 1998, followed by Brazil (1999), Australia (2000), Beijing (2001), Korea (2002), Austria (2003), Korea (2004), Singapore (2005), and Germany (2006).

As part of the FIRA World Cup, we will also host the FIRA World Cup / RoboGames Congress. The 2007 Congress welcomes paper submissions from researchers, practitioners and students to share the expertise and technology of building intelligent robots including entertainment robots, service robots and personal robots.

Soccer is a game that stands for fitness, team spirit, individual flash of genius, tactical discipline and creative flexibility. Robot soccer is one of the most difficult and diverse robot sports. It involves teaching robots to walk and run, involves multiple robot communication, robot control, sensor fusion, intelligent control, communication, image processing, mechatronics and artificial intelligence. Within a few years, robot soccer tournaments have developed into highly dynamic and competitive games that present itself as an internationally accepted benchmark. FIRA strives to:

  • promote the development of autonomous multi-agent robotic systems that can cooperate with each other
  • contribute to technology improvement in the field of robotics
  • providing a platform for benchmarking progress in multi-agent robotics
  • take the spirit of science and technology to the young generation and laymen and spark enthusiasm about robotics
  • bring together skilled researchers and students from different backgrounds.

FIRA soccer events are broken up into 6 categories:
FIRA-MiroSot (5:5 & 11:11)
FIRA-NaroSot (5:5)
FIRA-RoboSot (2:2)
FIRA-SimuroSot (5:5 & 11:11)
FIRA-KheperaSot (1:1)
